Lessons learnt from the Mahabharat & Ramayan

  • Never try to seduce someone who has a sword and a short temper (As Soorpankha found out to the loss of her nose)
  • Never chop off the nose of a woman who has a powerful demon brother.
  • Never take a vow of celibacy unless you can look into the future (Bheeshma was asked by his step-mom to marry his late step-brother's wives since there was no heir to the throne left after his death. He refused of course.)
  • Do not insult a woman with five husbands, you could lose your kingdom and your life (Draupadi's vow to tie up her hair only once she has washed it with Duryodhan & Dushyant's blood was one of the main causes of the war)
  • Don't run off to kill a golden deer (Rama) or a magnificient tiger (Pandu) on the insistence of your wife. You don't need to bring back everything she wishes for. As is the wont of women she may change her mind about it later and you may end up with a curse or something.
  • Don't trust a woman to follow instructions (Lakshman rekha)
  • Sometimes even women cross the line (Lakshman rekha again)
  • Don't ask your wife to repeatedly prove her faithfulness. She will go off to her mom's place (Sita asked mother earth to take her in).
  • Pancakes taste good with chicken curry ... That's not a myth.

Points to be clarified

Bheeshma's father has two sons with his step mother. The first dies after which the second one is crowned king, who has two wives, Ambika and Ambalika, who in turn each bore a son, Dhrishtrashtra and Pandu. So how come stepmom asking Bheeshma to marry came up. I am confused.

And the mother of all wars, the Mahabharatha I think happened cause it was just meant to happen. To give us humans a mean piece of literature that is a take on our own world. Draupadi's vows and all other ingredients were just meant to spice it up.

I would also add, never chop off the nose of a woman, who can get herself a nose job. You will be simbly (pls read as spelled) wasting your time.

Well, you need to verify your Mahabharat facts. The second son died before he could sire an heir. So Bheeshma was asked to marry Amba and Ambalika. He refused so Rishi Vyasa (who is the son of Bheeshma's step mother out of wedlock) is called to impregnate the women.

Some more lessons:
1. If you want to have sex with your brother's wife, say your mom told you to.
2. If you have sex out of wedlock tell the world that your partner was some God. And that he impregnated you without even touching you.
3. Don't take up any new jobs / responsibilities unless someone reminds you pointedly that this is something you can (and shud do)
