What becomes of the original owners, the farmers or tribal people living in these areas? Nobody seems to care and those who care are bullied and threatened into submission. I am no activist ... I probably don't have the guts required, but I do cry at the pain of the poor trees that are chopped down and the little animals and birds that lose their homes to a virus called human.

this reminded me of Avataar :)
but on a serious note, I think we can do our part if nothing more...plant trees that is.
"I do cry at the pain of the poor trees that are chopped down and the little animals and birds that lose their homes to a virus called human" - I echo your sentiments and I agree with Diwakar. Each of us must do his/her bit and lessen the damage to that extent - planting trees, composting, not littering, not using plastic...there's a lot that can be done.
@Diwakar & Wanderer - Noble thoughts. Although I haven't planted any trees of late I remember once planting a very peculiar looking fleshy root. It quickly grew into a massive creeper and was chopped down by the lady living in the ground floor coz it scared her. Humans are mean!
